2001 David Devoy, Vice President of Finance and CFO, becomes
President of Coco's and Carrows. Advantica Restaurant Group
announces its intention to sell the Coco's and Carrows
restaurant chains. Coco's continues remodeling program which
features the brand's bakery heritage in 14 additional
restaurants. A new menu featuring creative and diverse
offerings, along with traditional favorites, is introduced
to Coco's in August.

Police: Socal
man shot and killed after threatening officer

CARLSBAD, Calif. - A police officer shot and killed a man
who threatened to attack him Tuesday with a screwdriver,
authorities said.
The man was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital where he
died, said the Carlsbad Police Department in a
statement. No other information was given, and police have
not released the names of the officer or man killed.
The incident began after a postal employee called police to
report that a man had thrown an object at him that shattered
his mail vehicle's windshield, said police spokeswoman Lynn
Diamond. It was unclear if the postal worker was injured.
A little later, an officer saw a man walking south along
Interstate 5 who fit the description of the assailant,
Diamond said.
When the officer approached, the man threatened him with a
screwdriver, she said. The officer backed up, but the man
continued to advance and the officer opened fire, Diamond
said.
After the shooting, southbound freeway lanes outside
Carlsbad were closed for several hours as police
investigated. |
