Douglas Schmied

BLOOMINGTON -- Douglas Michael Schmied, 21, of 406 N. Lakeshore Drive, Hanna City, died at 9:46 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 24, 2005) at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

He was born June 6, 1984, in Peoria, a son of Michael D. and Laura Ann Stranz Schmied.

He is survived by his parents of Hanna City; two sisters, Katrina "Katie" (Dana) Berry, Elgin, and Jessica (Scott) Belsly, East Peoria; and one nephew, Aiden Belsly, East Peoria.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Doug was a 2002 graduate of Farmington High School. He was in his senior year at Illinois Wesleyan University, where he was an accounting/computer science major and a member of the Illinois Wesleyan Accounting Society. Doug was an Illinois Wesleyan Academic Scholarship Recipient. He was also a three-year starter as an offensive lineman for the IWU Titans football team, where he was co-captain for the 2005 season.

Doug worked at the Illinois Wesleyan University Information Technology Center as the lab supervisor. He also worked as an engineering technician for V3 Industrial Services in Peoria during the summer of 2004.

Doug attended Hanna City Presbyterian Church.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Farmington High School Gymnasium. The Rev. Kerry Frantz and the Rev. Dr. Ed Gray will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home, Peoria. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens, Peoria. Memorial contributions may be made to the Doug Schmied Athletic Scholarship Fund at Farmington High School, the IWU Doug Schmied Athletic Fund, or to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
