70,000 Doses Of 'Date Rape Drug' Seized In North Bay

June 27 (BCN)Petaluma police and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency arrested a Santa Rosa man on Saturday for allegedly possessing more than 70,000 doses of GHB, known as the "date rape drug."

Sgt. Jim Stephenson said 35-year-old Thomas Miller was arrested after an employee of the DHL express mail depot became suspicious about a 110-pound steel keg that arrived from China. The keg contained the liquid dihydrofuranone, also known as GHB, Stephenson said.

An undercover DEA officer posing as a clerk delivered the substance to Miller, who was then arrested after a traffic stop. Stephenson said the keg contained more then 10 gallons of liquid GHB, enough to supply 70,000 doses of the drug that induces euphoria and sensuality and dissolves inhibitions and anxiety.

Police also searched Miller's Santa Rosa home on Borden Villa Drive and allegedly found GVL, a substance similar to GHB, in 14 one-quart bottles, Stephenson said.

Stephenson said Miller works as a personal trainer and GVL is used by body builders "to keep them cut."

Miller was booked in the Sonoma County jail under $50,000 bail.
