Dufour Wins Individual Title at Topy Cup

TANAGURA, Japan (AP) -- Kristin Dufour shot a 1-under 71 Thursday for a three-stroke victory in the women's individual event at the Topy Cup, an annual U.S.-Japan intercollegiate golf championship.

Dufour, who attend the University of Texas, finished the event, played on Tanagura Country Club's 6,061-yard, par-72 course, at 1-over 217, three shots ahead of Jessica Reese, also of Texas. Reese had a final-round 73.

Kaori Kawanaka of Japan's Senshu University finished third at 8-over 224 after a final-round 77.

Suzanne Fisher of Tulsa University was alone in fourth at 10-over 226.

In the women's team event, Dufour and Reese led Texas to a victory, finishing at 27-over 891, 20 strokes ahead of second-placed Tulsa.

Kinki University of Japan finished third at a 54-over 918.

In the men's competition, played at Tanagura's 7,050-yard, par-72 course, Riki Ikeda of Nihon University shot a 69 for a 6-under 210, one stroke ahead of Conrad Roberts of Texas and Toyokazu Fukushima of Tohoku University.

John Klauk of Texas placed fourth at 213.

Tohoku won the team event with a three-round total of 1-over 865, followed by Nippon Sports Science University's 869 and Texas' 871.

Kansas University placed fourth at 873, and Nihon University was fifth at 878.
