Hiker Found Dead In the Marin Headlands

SAUSALITO – A missing hiker found dead in the Marin
Headlands over the weekend drowned face down in a creek,
authorities said Monday. Jim Phiffer, 60, of
Sausalito, who suffered from Parkinson's disease and had
a pacemaker, was last seen Friday afternoon as he and
his three-legged border collie, Maxwell, walked
toward a trailhead near Rodeo Beach about 10 miles north
of San Francisco.
His body was discovered Saturday night in a creek near
the Miwok Trail.
The cause of death was drowning, Pam Carter, an
investigator with the Marin County Coroner's Office,
said Monday. Authorities do not suspect foul play.
"He did have a medical condition that cause him to have
an unsteady gate. There's a good chance he might have
tripped and fell and ended up down there" in the creek,
Carter said.

that she was moved and there was no water near

ground left by a tripod, leading Danny and
Hawkes to Leonard Percy, Tara's cameraman.
