Three-year-old Robert Harris, III is a little bundle of energy. From watching him run today you'd never know how close he came to drowning last week.
Robert Harris, boy's father: "It was definitely a blessing for you to be there at that time and I'm definitely convinced that you saved my son's life."
Young Robert's dad got to thank his son's rescuers in person today when they were honored by the Solano County Board of Supervisors.
It was last Thursday that the Martinez's took their two kids for a walk along the Vallejo waterfront. They saw Robert's mother, Chevaun Brown, dangle him over a railing and then drop him into the frigid water. Alejandro dove into the 12-foot deep water and pulled the boy to safety, even though he could not swim.
Even now Alejandro gets emotional talking about it.
Alejandro Martinez, boy's rescuer: "I'm happy the boy is fine."
But both families are still wondering how Robert's mom could do it.
The Harris family was more than just thankful today, they were giving. They took up a collection from friends and family and also gave the Martinez's the keys to a post office box in case others want to give.
The money will be good news because their son needs an ear operation and Alejandro has been out of work. But the good news is he is starting a new job tomorrow.
That new job came from an employer who had heard about the rescue and wanted to do something to help Alejandro and his family.
