Apparent Road Rage Leaves Woman Dead
Suspect Turns Herself In
June 23 (BCN) — Alameda County sheriff's officials said
today that the driver who allegedly caused the death of
an 18-year-old woman in an apparent road-rage incident
has turned herself in to authorities.
Sheriff's officials said that Laura Medina surrendered
at 2 p.m. today and was held in connection with the
death of Michelle Dickerson of Tracy, who died in the
crash in the 2300 block of Lessley Avenue in Castro
Valley about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Officials declined to disclose Medina's age, where she
lives and the specific charge for which she was
arrested.
The crash stemmed from an altercation between people in
two cars in what officials described as the "Foothill
area" of Oakland, apparently referring to the Foothill
Boulevard area in East Oakland. The vehicles were a 1995
Chevrolet Cavalier and a 1991 Buick Park Avenue.
Both vehicles were seen driving eastbound on Interstate
Highway 580 at a high rate of speed, sheriff's officials
said.
The Buick Park Avenue reportedly was chasing and ramming
the Chevrolet Cavalier, authorities said.
Both vehicles ultimately ended up on Lessley Avenue,
where the collision occurred.
Dickerson was a passenger in the Chevrolet, which
ultimately lost control as a result of being rear-ended
by the Buick, sheriff's officials said.
Authorities said the suspect who was driving the Buick
fled from the scene, but that witnesses identified
Medina as the driver before she turned herself in today.
