Fatally Attacked On Concord Trail Reward Offered In Concord Woman's Death
May 14 (BCN) — A woman was fatally attacked on the Contra Costa
Canal trail near her office in Concord.
Kathleen Aiello, 49, asked her boss around noon on Tuesday if he'd
like some coffee before she went out for a stroll.
Today, a combined $35,000 reward was announced in connection with
her murder. Authorities hope the money leads them to those who
killed the Antioch woman on a popular trail near the Concord offices
where she worked.
No suspects have been identified.
The city of Concord is offering $10,000 and BEI Technologies, Inc.,
the parent company of the firm where Aiello worked, is planning to
post a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and
conviction of the responsible, according to Jerry Brasuell, a
company executive.
Co-workers on Tuesday filed a missing persons report around 3 p.m.
when Aiello, a mother of three, never returned to the offices of
Systron Donner Inertial Division on Systron Drive.
Officers searched an area near the Contra Costa Canal, between
Cowell and Tioga roads, and found the women severely injured. Taken
to John Muir Medical Center, she was pronounced dead at 4:54 p.m.
An autopsy completed Wednesday indicated that Aiello died from
"blunt force trauma to the head," according to the Contra Costa
County Coroner's office. No other details about her injuries were
released.
Brasuell said Aiello was much loved and will be sorely missed at
Systron Donner, where she worked for two years. The company produces
precision gyros used to improve car safety.
Aiello was Brasuell's assistant and her desk stood around the corner
from his own, he said.
"She was always upbeat and sincerely concerned with other people's
well-being," he said. "(On Tuesday), we were extremely busy with
customers and it was hectic and she came in and asked if I wanted a
cup of coffee before she left."
That was the last thing she said before leaving for the trail, where
many Donner Systron employees go for strolls during lunch breaks,
according to Brasuell.
"You just didn't expect something like this to happen on that
trail," he said. "There are women with baby carriages there, kids
riding bikes. You're almost always within sight of somebody else."
Aiello's is the second murder in Concord this year, according to the
Police Department.
Anyone with information is urged to call Concord police at (925)
